Untouched nature is sadly such a rare thing these days. It feels incredible when you find yourself in a place that is as lush and vibrant as the Great Bear Rainforest.

These bears spent the summer months eating berries in the mountains, and come down to sea level to begin fishing in the salmon-filled rivers during the end of the salmon migration. The high fat content in the fish gets the bears ready to hibernate during the winter.

It’s always a curious moment of connection when the apex predators that you’re photographing stare directly down your lens- trying to decide what to make of you.

Days of waiting and wandering lead to moments of connection like this, and that’s what keeps me obsessed with wildlife photography.

This place feels like paradise in nature, and yet it still faces so much risk of destruction from humans. I’ll never fully understand why people will try so hard to destroy such a special place.

We spent 5 days travelling through the rain forest on the Pacific Yellowfin- a beautiful ship built for the navy in WW2, which is still using it’s original engine. It was one of 75 built, but it’s the last one running.

Home to more than 230 species of birds and 68 species of mammals, it’s the largest intact temperate rain forest left anywhere on earth.
